One of the things I’ve gotten a lot of comments on in my novels is the descriptiveness of my writing. While I’d love to take all the credit for this, the truth is I use a little trick: Wherever possible, I use real locations, and simply describe what it actually looks like. In cases where a real location won’t work (or I can’t find one to match what I’m thinking), I usually go the extra mile of creating a floorplan for the location, like I did for Rev’s office in the new Parata series. For Desolation, the long hike from the hotel to the car dealership was a trip through a real section of Raleigh, a trip you too can take via this Google map I made. |
Using the power of street view, you can actually walk the path Will took, and see for yourself how the book lines up with reality (there’s a few easer eggs in there for attentive readers). You can even go into the GMC dealership and take a virtual tour, though, sadly, you will not be able to see the key storage room. |
