Setting up a drum set is an all-day event…

So I just got finished moving my wife’s office into the spare bedroom, along with putting the little kit in storage, and then setting up the big kit. All told, I’ve been working this pretty much non-stop since 7AM. Would have gotten it done faster, but the work was broken up with impromptu sessions where I couldn’t help but play a little. Needless to say I’m exhausted, but everything is set up and mic’d up. To give you an idea of the enormity of the task, here’s a few panoramas:

The ‘small kit’ one is a little screwed up, but it’s still fairly illustrative. Here’s an (admittedly bad) shot from behind the big kit:

There’s still a few things left to do:

  • Change out the crappy stock Tama pinstripes for Evans heads
  • Add another SM57 to the mini-hat and the batter on the Snare. I’ve got the mic’s, just not the cables.
  • Add an extension for the headphones
  • Play with levels and positioning
  • Set up a Sonar template for recording

I should be able to get most of this done next weekend, then I’ll try to get a sound bite up.
